Pinot Noir Neuchâtel AOC 2017
I bought this bottle at Zürich airport… figuring out too late that I overpaid for it. Salute, Prosit, Santé!
In the glass the wine has a lively ruby colour. The intensity is medium to pale.
The aromas intensity is medium plus. There is a hint of rose and then a blaze of red fruits as redcurrant, red cherry and sour cherry. Notes of green bell pepper, grass and medicinal gives a touch of freshness. There is also a hint of minerality, given by a sharp note of gunpowder. The secondary aromas are the most classic ones: a light clove, an elegant cedar and a subtle smoke. The tertiary are still timid: fig, dried cranberry, wet leaves and forest floor.
In the mouth, the wine is dry with a high level of acidity. The tannins are medium, but still leave a nice sensation of cleanness on the palate. The flavour intensity is medium and the lasting medium plus. Fresh red fruits not totally ripe dominate the aromatic palette, but they fade quite quickly, leaving only a fragrance of strawberry.
This is a nice nectar, whose strength is the freshness of the red fruits. Don’t expect any charming complexity or evolution. It is an easy drink wine perfect for washing out a nice charcuterie board without being too aspirational. It seems almost a Beaujolais.
