Vecchia Torre

Arneide 2016

Puglia, Italia

This nectar is a blend of Negroamaro (70%) and Primitivo (30%) from vineyards located in the area of Leverano, near Lecce. The grapes are handpicked and then they are passed through a de-stemmer (no crushing). The must is left to soak in contact with the skins in steel vats for 10-12 days at a controlled temperature of 24-26°C. After the fermentation process the divine juice ages 16-18 months in French barriques and at least 3 months in bottles. Salute!

The wine has a lively ruby color. The intensity is pronounced.

The aroma intensity is pronounced. Immediately notes of ripe red fruits come out from the glass, followed by hints of spices and flowers. The secondary aromas include vanilla, cloves, cedar, but also charred wood and smoke. The tertiaries are still feeble, but they still remember the dried cranberry, prune, earth and game.

In the mouth, the wine is dry with medium high level of acidity. The tannins are medium, while the alcohol is high (i.e. 14 %). On the palate, it is an explosion of morello cherry, red plum, spices, and hints of jamminess and preserved fruits. The barrique did its job. Secondary aromas such vanilla, cloves, dark chocolate, cloves, toast, and charred wood enrich the aromatic bouquet. The tertiaries are dried fruits, and elegant dry flowers. The flavor intensity is pronounced and the lasting is long.

An excellent blend of Negroamaro and Primitivo characterized by sumptuous hints of ripe red fruits, especially morello cherry, and spices. Such opulence is perfectly balanced by notes of smoke and charred wood, that make the aromatic bouquet quite vivacious and leave a nice sensation of cleanness on the palate. The barrique influence is quite pronounced, and the wine texture is pure velvet. It is a very gushy nectar, perfect to be drunk even while the steak is still on the grill.
