A Passo Lento 2017

Puglia, Italia

This nectar is a blend of Negroamaro and Syrah from vineyards located in the area of Leverano, near Lecce. The grapes are left drying to concentrate the sugars. After the fermentation process the divine juice ages for 6 months in French barriques. Salute!

Appearance

The wine has a lively purple color. The intensity is medium.

Nose

The aroma intensity is pronounced. Immediately notes of ripe black fruits, especially blackberry, but also prune, sultana with hints of black pepper, carob and licorice. The secondary aromas include vanilla, cloves, cedar, but also toast and smoke. The tertiaries remember the dried blackberry and leather.

Palate

In the mouth, the wine is dry with medium high level of acidity. The tannins are medium, while the alcohol is high (i.e. 14 %). On the palate, we still taste a lot of ripe fruit and spices. The flavor intensity is pronounced and the lasting is long. The texture is incredibly smooth.

Conclusion

This nectar is a very enjoyable blend of Negroamaro and Syrah characterized by a cornucopia of ripe black fruits, carob, and spices. The aromatic palette has intensity and lasting, but it lacks a bit of evolution. The wine spoils us with all its generosity already at the first sip, remaining quite consistent along the entire bottle without any further surprise. Tough to find something better in this price range.
