Cirneco Rosso Etna DOC 2011
I will always be grateful to this producer. The first sip of its Carusu made me fall in love with Etna Rosso. This Cirneco is a 100% Nerello Mascalese from at least 60 years old vineyards located at 650-850m asl. The harvest of the grapes takes place in October and the vinification process includes long maceration at controlled temperature. Then the divine juice ages 12 month in French durmast oak tonneau, double toasted, second / third passage, following by long aging in the bottle for at least 3 years Salute!
In the glass the wine has an alluring ruby colour of medium intensity with aristocratic garnet hues. It is clear with no traces of sediments.
The aromas intensity is pronounced. The primary aromas remember the red fruits, especially the sour cherry, floral perfumes of violet and a sprinkling of black pepper. A couple of swirling and the secondaries come out in all their power and virility. There are strong hints of charred wood, smoke, toast, with a sharp cloves and rounded vanilla. The tertiaries include the farmyard, Kentucky tobacco, earth, forest floor, the dark chocolate, a strong black coffee but also the elegance of dried flowers.
In the mouth, the wine is dry with a high level of acidity. The tannins are medium plus; while the alcohol is high (i.e. 14%). The nectar has a medium pronounced intensity with the sour cherry that seems to be preserved in spirit. Also on the palate, there are a lot of secondary and tertiary aromas. The aromatic bouquet is even more complex, with hints of mushroom, savoury notes remembering the capers, and a succulent meaty sensation. The lasting of all these flavours is long.
This nectar is fabulous! It is balanced, it has intensity and lasting, and it is incredibly complex with a lot of charming secondary and tertiary aromas. Drink it by its own if you want to indulge yourself with the masculine notes of charred woods, smoke, Kentucky tobacco, farmyard, forest floor and mushroom; otherwise enjoy this nectar and its feminine fragrances of red fruits, violet and dried flowers while spoiling yourself with a swordfish steak and confit tomato.
