Sansilvestro - Barolo Patres 2015 DOCG

Sansilvestro

Patres 2015 DOCG

Piemonte, Italy

This nectar is a 100% Nebbiolo from vineyards located in 11 towns of Barolo area. The divine juice ages for at least 38 months, of which 18 months in big Slavonia barrels. Salute!

Appearance

In the glass the wine has a garnet colour. The intensity is medium.

Nose

At the nostrils, it is undoubtedly a Barolo. It is a cornucopia of red fruits, especially wild berry and a hint of ripe strawberry. There is also an elegant perfume of violet, a sharp black pepper, preserved fruits, and balsamic notes of grass and eucalyptus. As secondary, there is a nice vanilla, cloves, cedar and toast. The tertiary aromas are earth, mushroom, meaty and game.

Palate

In the mouth, the wine is dry with a high level of acidity. The tannins are high and they give an amazing astringent sensation. The alcohol is high (14.5%) but gentle. The flavour intensity is pronounced, with the red fruit being more rounded and succulent. There are also charming notes of dry flowers, a refreshing eucalyptus and a touch of liquorice. As secondary, there are also flavours of coffee and dark chocolate. The tertiaries have a pleasant bitter taste, with notes of cooked plum, dry cranberry and tobacco. The finish is medium plus.

Conclusion

This is a good wine sold a reasonable price. It is still young, but quite promising. If you like tasting mostly red fruits and not extremely keen on austere and virile tertiaries, than it is a perfect choice. It is good by its own, but perfect with green pepper beef fillet.
