Puer Apuliae Riserva 2013 DOCG
This nectar is a 100% Nero di Troia, the black grape varieties most typical of central and northern Apulia, from “Tafuri” vineyard. The grapes are harvested last week of October. They macerate for 20 days in stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-over and delestage. Then the divine nectar ages for 14 months in new French oak barrique and other 12 months in the bottle. Salute!
The wine has a lively ruby color. The intensity is medium.
The aroma intensity is medium plus. Hints of crunchy red fruits, black pepper and balsamic notes of eucalyptus and thyme dominate the aromatic palette. The secondary aromas remember the vanilla, cloves, charred woods and toast. The tertiaries include leather, game and a touch of farmyard.
In the mouth, the wine is dry with high level of acidity. The tannins are medium plus. The alcohol is medium (i.e. 13.5 %), and it gives a pleasant heatwave. On the palate, the flavor intensity is pronounced with still hints of red frits, but also blackberry. There also elegant notes of Mediterranean herbs, violet, rose, dried flower and a mint. Towards the end, a surprising hint of pomegranate comes out, while a balsamic note of mint makes the aromatic bouquet quite vibrant. The secondary notes are vanilla, cedar, cloves, charred wood, toast and dark chocolate. The lasting is long.
This Nero di Troia is the quintessence of the elegance. A nectar with crunchy notes of red fruits, but also sharp hints of black pepper and chamring floral fragrances. The first sniff reveals spectacular tertiary notes typical of a great Burgundy, while the secondaries are mix of spices, charred woods and dark chocolate. It works well to wash down a succulent steak, but also to be enjoyed after dinner with your cigar.
