Mastroberardino - Radici Taurasi DOCG 2015

This nectar is a 100% Aglianico come from 20 years old vineyards at 450m asl. The harvest takes place at the end of October, beginning of November. The crop undergoes a long maceration on the skin at controlled temperature. Then the divine juice ages for 24 months in barriques and French oak casks. This Taurasi completes its fining in the bottle for at least other 24 months.  The producer suggests a potential ageing of 50 years and beyond. Salute!

Appearance

In the glass the wine has an elegant ruby colour. The intensity is medium.

Nose

The aromas intensity is pronounced. At the first sniff, a very intense fragrance of violet comes out, followed by a quite sharp note of black pepper. In the glass there is a blaze of crunchy red fruits, with hints of gunpowder and olive bark. The secondary aromas remember the vanilla, charred wood and toast. The tertiaries include a feeble note of farmyard, a succulent meat and wet wool.

Palate

In the mouth, the wine is dry with a high level of acidity, while the alcohol is medium (13.5%). The tannins are high, leaving our palate total anesthetized and with an incredible polishing sensation. The nectar has a pronounced flavour intensity of wild red fruits preserved in alcohol. The bitter flavour of a sour cherry is quite persistent. The charred wood dominates the spectrum of secondary aromas, with also notes of cloves, coffee and dark chocolate. The lasting is long.

Conclusion

This Taurasi is so classic and elegant. A triumph of red fruits and sharp spices indulge our nostrils and tasting buds. The charred wood, dark chocolate and coffee notes enrich an already complex aromatic bouquet. The nectars is powerful, has intensity and lasting, and its acidity makes it the perfect companion to wash down a sumptuous meal. Ça sans dire, it is strongly recommended for “meditation”.
