Gerard Tremblay - Chablis Premier Cru Montmain 2018

Gerard Tremblay

Chablis Premier Cru Montmain 2018

Chablis, France

It is a 100% Chardonnay from 40 year old vines situated in the 1er Cru 'Montmain' vineyard. 30% of the wine is aged in old oak barrels Santé!

Appearance

In the glass the wine has a gold colour with some green hues. The intensity is medium to pale.

Nose

The aromas intensity is medium plus. There are hints of acacia, honeysuckle, and blossom. The primary aromas include also nectarine, melon, a not fully ripe banana, citrus and green apple. Sharp notes of flint and wet stone give a vibrant sensation of minerality. This perfectly balanced by softer fragrance of butter and bread dough.

Palate

In the mouth, the wine is dry with a high level of acidity. The alcohol is medium (i.e. 13%). The flavour intensity is pronounced, with beautiful floral and fruity hints. Then these are overwhelmed by the incredible freshness of the mineral notes. The wine is so silky on the palate, with a very creamy and elegant texture. The last is medium.

Conclusion

It is a very nice nectar with floral and fruity notes, remembering the warmer wines from southern Burgundy. Its vibrant mineral notes make it ideal for blessing a sumptuous Plateau de fruits de mer. It lacks a bit of complexity, but we can forgive it given the young age.
