It is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio planted in Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of mount Etna at 750m asl. The grapes are harvested by hand during the second and third week of October. They are left fermenting for 18 days at 24°-25°C. The vinification is carried out in frustum-of-cone shaped wooden vats. The malolactic fermentation is carried out. The divine nectar ages for 9 months in durmast Slovenian casks and other 12 months in the bottle. Salute!

Appearance

The wine has an elegant ruby color with garnet hues. The intensity is medium.

Nose

The aroma intensity is medium plus. Hints of roses, ripe strawberry and fig, but also a pinch of black pepper. After few minutes, notes of licorice and eucalyptus come out. The fruit starts to remember a fine jam and the preserved one. The secondary aromas include vanilla, cloves, toast, smoke and cocoa powder. The tertiaries are already quite developed. We smell a particularly marked note of hazelnut, but also tobacco, leather, forest floor and elegant dried flowers.

Palate

In the mouth, the wine is dry with high level of acidity. The tannins are medium. The alcohol is high (i.e. 14.5 %), and it gives a pleasant heatwave. On the palate, the secondary and tertiary aromas take the stage. We taste a lot of cloves, dried flowers, dark chocolate, leather, Kentucky tobacco, smoke , toast and a persistent charred wood. We find also a ripe strawberry, fig, prune, sour cherry and preserved red fruits. The aroma intensity is medium plus and the lasting is long.

Conclusion

Another great Etna Rosso. Its aromatic palette is quite complex with secondary and tertiary aromas already at their peak. Both our nostrils and tasting buds are bewitched by a kaleidoscope of scents and flavors remembering the ripe strawberry, fig, prune, sour cherry; but also the charred wood, smoke, toast, cocoa powder and spices. The tertiaries include the leather, Kentucky tobacco, forest floor and hazelnut. Such endless list of hints make this nectar a pleasant mate for your evening meditations.
