Fontalloro IGT 2017
This nectar is a 100% Sangiovese from vineyards within Chianti Classico area at an altitude between 330 and 407m asl. After the quality-selected clusters are de-stemmed and pressed, the must is fermented and macerated in stainless steel for 16-20 days at 28°C and 30°C, with programmed punchdowns and daily pumpovers. In March-April, the new wine goes into new and into first used French oak barrels; after 18-22 months of maturation, the final blend is assembled, bottled, and ages in glass a minimum of 8-12 months. Salute!
The wine has an elegant ruby color with garnet hues. The intensity is medium.
The aroma intensity is pronounced. The aromatic palette starts with a scent of rose and violet followed by hints of crunchy wild red fruits, plum and a sharp note of pepper and licorice. The secondary aromas remember the vanilla, coffee, dark chocolate, toast and smoke. The tertiaries include wet earth, forest floor, game, meaty and a light hint of tobacco.
In the mouth, the wine is dry with high level of acidity. The tannins are medium, very gently and softly. The alcohol is medium (i.e. 13.5 %), and it gives a pleasant heatwave. On the palate, we find charming floral fragrances, scents of wild fruits and spices. A balsamic hints of eucalyptus and licorice make the aromatic palette really vibrant and almost refreshing. The already mentioned secondary and tertiary notes complete the beautiful aromatic bouquet. Both flavor intensity and lasting are pronounced.
I think I fall in love with this nectar. The aromatic bouquet is a noble mosaic of perfumes sweeping from the wild red fruits and spices, to balsamic hints of eucalyptus and licorice, elegantly combined with notes of wet earth, dark chocolate and scent of tobacco.
