Freedom Blend 2016
This nectar is a blend of 65% Bastardo (also know as Trousseau or Cabernet Gros, Ukraine), 20% Rară Neagră (Moldova) and 15% Saperavi (Georgia). The grapes are still hand-picked. After the fermentation, the divine juice ages for 12 months in French oak barriques. Sănătate!
In the glass the wine has purple colour .The intensity is deep also along the rims. There are sediments towards the end.
The aromas intensity is medium plus. The first flavours hitting our nostril remember ripe wild fruits as the blackberry, black currant and a succulent raspberry. There are also balsamic notes of blackcurrant leaf, a feeble lavender, liquorice, tomato leaf and black pepper. The secondary aromas are mostly vanilla and cedar. The tertiary are quite subdued. There are hint of dry cranberry and leather.
In the mouth, the wine is dry with a medium high acidity and tannins. The alcohol is medium (i.e. 13%) but it gives a nice heat wave. The flavour intensity is pronounced. On the palate, the fruit is even riper almost stewed. The dominant flavour is the prune. The secondary aromas are more virile, with notes of charred wood and toast. The tertiary are again leather, dry cranberry but also a meaty. Glass after glass the wine evolves. The black fruits fade, and a sour cherry become the main protagonist. The flavour lasting is medium plus.
Not my favourite nectar produced by Purcari, but still a nice drink! The wine is generous, with good balance and intensity, but it lacks a bit of complexity. It works well to wash down an amatriciana pasta, less so to help you thinking about what you want to do with your life. Don’t drink before driving; the color of the teeth will reveal your sin to the highway police.
