Cantine San Marzano
Anniversario 62 Primitivo Riserva
I have lived and breathed Primitivo for so many years that now I am taking a break from it. But sometimes I still give me the pleasure to uncork and enjoy this nectar. The grapes come from at least 60 years old vineyards located in San Marzano and Sava. The harvest, rigorously by hand, takes place in the second half of September when the grapes are fully ripe. The maceration lasts 18 days for 80% of the grapes, and 25% for the remaining part. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature between 24° and 26 °C. After that, the divine juice ages for 18 months in French and American oak barriques. Salute!
In the glass the wine has a ruby colour. The intensity is deep.
The aromas intensity is pronounced. It is cornucopia of ripe black fruits as black cherry and plum, with hints of sultana, raisin, kirsch and prune. Despite this opulence, the aromatic palette is lively and vibrant thank to notes of spices, liquorice, and a refreshing light touch of mint. The long nap in the oak has given the classical fragrance of cloves, vanilla, cedar, dark chocolate, coffee and a charming smoke. The tertiaries remember me the dried fruits and fig, but also the tobacco, game and meaty. It is really rich!
In the mouth, the wine is dry with a medium plus level of acidity. Also the tannins are medium plus, but they are really rounded and silky. The alcohol is high (i.e. 14.5%), but it doesn’t burn at all. Flavour intensity is a tsunami of concentrated fragrances. What we sniff at the nostrils, it is amplified to nth degree at the palate. I bet most of you has never eaten or tasted such succulent fruits. The lasting is eternal.
As its brother F, this Primitivo is pure opulence. But it is never boring and actually beyond the richness, we find also a great elegance in the glass. The wine is balanced, complex and has the intensity to make you fall in love with it. I am not exaggerating; if you don’t believe me, ask to my friends! I think that last time, a couple of them were even crying for the happiness after the first sip.
