Montefalco Sagrantino 2013 DOCG
This wine is a 100% Sagrantino. The grapes, harvested around mid-October, macerate for about 20. After the pressing, the divine juice ages for at least 18 months in barrique. Salute!
The wine has a noble ruby color with garnet hues. The intensity is medium.
The aroma intensity is medium plus. The primary aromas remember the wild red berries, black pepper, licorice and a scent of eucalyptus. The secondaries include vanilla, cloves, cedar and a light smoke. The tertiary aromas are a fine leather, earth, forest floor, tobacco and a light farmyard.
In the mouth, the wine is dry with high level of acidity. The tannins are pronounced and give a pleasant polishing sensation. The alcohol is high (i.e. 14 %), and gives a nice heatwave. On the palate, the flavor intensity is medium plus. Immediately a note of charred wood takes the stage, followed by hints of smoke, toast, leather, dark chocolate and tobacco. The lasting is medium plus, with the charred wood and sour cherry flavor preserved in alcohol lingering for quite some time.
This wine is characterized by a quite masculine aromatic palette, with already quite developed tertiaries aromas as fine leather, earth, forest floor, tobacco and a light farmyard. The marked secondaries remember hints of charred wood, toast, smoke and spices. The wine is austere and elegant at nose, while it shows all its strength on the palate, revealing its high acidity and grippy tannins. It works extremely well to tame a tick porterhouse than to be enjoyed by its own.
